Forgesworn Eternals - Sunforge Hammers and Wings - How I did it

This is a simple painting guide to how I did the Sunforge effect for my Retributors and Prosecutor wings.
First I start off by painting the base color of Averland Sunset (Citadel). Not pictured, but the same base color is used on the sunforge hammer, of course.
Then I did a layer of Flash Gitz Yellow (Citadel) over the base.
Next I made a wash from White Scar (Citadel) by mixing it with a bunch of water. You are pretty much looking to make milk with it. The stuff should wash on and fill in all the recesses and show the yellow through.
Then drybrush Flash Gitz Yellow (Citadel) heavily over it, keeping the white in the recesses. You can allow the following drybrushing colors to end up on nearby parts because they help create a glow effect.
Using Fire Orange (Reaper) I drybrushed over the hammer head, but lighter so as to not cover the white and yellow. On the wings I started partway down and drybrushed to the ends.
A similar step, I used Phoenix Red (Reaper) and did a lighter drybrushing, to create a gradient showing the material cooling.
To finish the effect I very carefully and lightly drybrushed Abaddon Black (Citadel) to show the coolest areas of the hammer and wings. If I felt an area needed more black, I was still very careful to lightly drybrush to build up to the level I thought looked good. It is very easy to do too much black and screw the whole thing up, so be careful.

And that's it! The finished product should look like a piece of iron heated to a white hot in the furnace, and slowly cooling, which of course starts on the outermost edges and works its way to the core.

Verminlord Skrax' Lair - Display Board Finished

And now the finale, the display board of my Dark Eldar Haemonculus Covens army I will be taking to the Harvester of Souls.
The green pool was made using Water Effects. It took several pours and sets to get to the depth that I needed. All the grimy floor is made with a mix of sand and Spackle.
The big red Skrax symbol was done by making a stencil and sponging it on, to create that weathered look. A lot of the painting on this board was done using sponging. Dripping water and stains were done using GW washes.
You will recognize a lot of the bits up top as miscasts from my Zone Mortalis project. The top layer is the surface of the world, where the ruins of an imperial manufactorum remain, and the lower part is the vast toxic sewer system underneath.
Now for some shots of it all together.
You may notice all the small rats scattered about. They are a mix of rats miniatures from Reaper and Mantic.
The Verminlord delivers a sermon to his huddled masses.
I am pretty proud of the title plaque on the bottom. I will do a how-I-did-it guide for it later.
I am so excited to take this to Spokane and show it off.

Forgesworn Eternals - Painted Models Part 4

I have completed 5 more retributors with 2 Sunforge Hammers (starsoul maces). A guide for painting those coming soon.
I kept pretty much the same as before. These used the new Retributors kit rather than the starter set ones. I wanted some more pose variety. I needed 2 squads of Retributors to fill a battalion in my list I'm taking to the LVO.

Forgesworn Eternals - Painted Models Part 3

I debated for a long time how I would paint the wings of my Prosecutors to fit the theme of the army. Once I painted the Sunforge Hammers, I got the idea to use those for the wings. The prosecutors have these metal spindles which glow with extreme heat and they use that radiant heat to help them fly. It's magic, I ain't gotta explain $#!%.
When I do the painting guide for the Sunforge Hammers, I will also be showing how I painted the Sunforge Wings, which use generally the same painting process and colors.

Forgesworn Eternals - Painted Models Part 2

The big change to my Retributors is I added another Starsoul Mace conversion. At the time I first built these, the warscroll had said only 1 out of 5 models could hold the special weapon, but it was later updated to 2 out of 5.
I am calling these Sunforge Hammers, implying they glow with the heat of the sun. I am particularly proud of the glow effect I was able to make. I need to do 5 more Retributors for my list, so I will do a How I Did It article on painting the glowing effect.
Lightning Hammers should have lightning. Luckily Duncan's own mini-tutorial came out around the time I was finishing these up. It was perfect for what I needed.

Forgesworn Eternals - Lord-celestant on Dire Bear (Updated)

With the release of the new kit, the Lord-celestant on Dracoth got an update to its warscroll. In the update are new weapon options and some extra bells and whistles. This gives me an option to improve on my own model if I wanted to, but I like the Tempestos Hammer, so I want to keep it with that, but what it could use is the Thundershield. This was easily modded by simply adding a shield to its left arm. The shield is a part from an upgrade kit. I added an Ironbreaker shield to give it a more duardin feel.

Forgesworn Eternals - Painted Models Part 1

Even after finishing my Dark Eldar project, I find myself still very much in a painting mood. So I started batch painting all my Forgesworn Eternals models. These of course are in preparation of the Las Vegas Open I will be attending. Stormcast Eternal models are ridiculously easy to paint, so these are getting done really quickly.
Here are my 10 Liberators. These can be run as 2 separate groups of 5, or one group of 10. I will likely do the earlier in my tournament list as it easily fills out the 2 of 3 battleline requirements. The Liberator-Primes are the ones with great weapons. All others just have hammers and shields.

Verminlord Skrax' Lair - Display Board Resumed Progress

Now that I'm done with my army, efforts are being put to resume on the display board. This is pretty exciting, and I really hope to be able to convey the dark lair that is the underground sewer system.

I've got a lot going on here, including the center pool, scaffold where Skrax will address to his subjects, various old ruined pipes and remnants of the past, etc. The big pink walls above have burrowed tunnels. There will be rats squirming throughout these. This is to help show that this is a cutaway of his lair.
Here are the plastic bits that will be decorating more of the board.
As I get a coat of primer on it, the whole thing is really starting to come together.

The Coven of Verminlord Skrax - Painted Models Part 7

And the final 2 miniatures for my army. The last 2 haemonculi.
Venomlord Stich is the real warrior of Skrax' lieutenants. He is meant to primarily lead and train the Wracks. As you may notice, all the harmonculi in my army are in white armor. This is to help them stand out among the teeming masses of ratskin and eerie green armor.
And finally the master Haemonculus himself, Verminlord Skrax in his final form that marks the end of his descent into madness, and the beginning of his crusade against his peers. It may be hard to tell, but he is the biggest of all the haemonculi, barely fitting on that 25mm base.

Next my big project is working on the display board. Once I get that finished, you will be able to see the whole thing together in all its glory. I can't wait!
